英語の重要性

　
　
英語は小学校から授業として教える必要はなくて、中学からnativeにキチンと教えてもらうのが一番いいと思う管理人であるが、困ったことに現場がまったく理解できてない文部科学省や教育再生会議の方向性は異なる。
　
いずれにせよ、英語の重要性は今後ますます高まるのは間違いないのだが、これからの日本を背負って立つ若い人達にその意識がまるでないのが実は一番の問題である。
かく言う私も学生時代はまったく英語など勉強してなかったのだから、人のことは言えない。
　
そこで、きょうは米国在住の友人が、送ってくれたメールを紹介したい。
これは、アメリカの大企業であるABC社（仮名）の人事担当副社長が、日本人の英語がヘタでコミュニケーションが取れない状況に業を煮やして、日本支社に送ったメールだ。
　
これから社会に出ようとする人達には、ぜひとも読んでいただきたい。

Many of you are participating in English language training or self-Learning program as part of your development at ABC Company. It is never easy to learn another language and especially as an adult and believe me I know, I am studying Japanese!!
　
This message is just to let you know that it is so important to you and your career. The world has become a global village and in the future country borders are likely to exist for only two reasons: national security and taxation. This means that all capital (money) and human resources will move freely back and forth between countries and continents. In order for all Japan employees (and Brazilian, German, French, Korean and all the rest) to take advantage of this changing world, a command for the English language is essential. English is the language of business worldwide and will someday soon enough be a requirement to do business even in Japan!
　
ABC Company has so many smart people in Japan. You lead the world in so many areas and processes but it is difficult for us to leverage and take advantage of this because we cannot communicate in one language. Japan is far behind other Asian countries like China and Korea in English language skills and we need to close this gap as fast as we can. Every company in Japan will need to do this in order to compete in the brave new world.
